01 · The idea

A clearer start to programming logic

Potoo IDE already lets learners explore algorithms with Portugol family variants, the Calango pseudolanguage, and the Potigol programming language. The project aims to make that process clearer for students and teachers by bringing code and results together in a desktop interface.

ForStudents and teachers

A place to support learning and teaching the foundations of programming.

FocusLogic before syntax

Pseudocode can keep attention on the steps behind an algorithm.

02 · Current features and next steps

A working foundation that keeps growing

Although development is at an early stage, Potoo IDE already offers an editor and execution for Portugol Studio 2.0, VisuAlg, G-Portugol, and Mapler, as well as Calango and Potigol. The learning experience continues to evolve.

03 · How it works

Four steps to explore an idea

This workflow is already available in the app, which remains under active development.

A teacher and student explore a flowchart together on a laptop.
01

Choose a language

Choose a Portugol variant, Calango, or Potigol.

02

Write the algorithm

Arrange and edit your program steps in the editor.

03

Run the program

Enter requested input and follow the program as it runs.

04

Read the results

Review the output and execution diagnostics.

In development. Support for available options continues to evolve, along with learning features.

04 · Languages

Different ways
to learn

Potoo IDE brings programming languages and pseudolanguages together in a learning space.

PT

Portugol

Portugol is a family of educational pseudolanguages for expressing algorithms in Portuguese. It has no single syntax: each variant defines its rules and features.

Calango

Calango is a Portuguese pseudolanguage for writing algorithms. Its commands help learners study steps, data, and conditions, with interpreted execution and step-by-step debugging.

PO

Potigol

Potigol is an educational programming language with Portuguese syntax, static typing and type inference. It combines imperative, functional and object-oriented features.

05 · Progress

Potoo IDE is just getting started

The app already lets you create, edit, and run algorithms in Portugol Studio 2.0, VisuAlg, G-Portugol, Mapler, Calango, and Potigol. Compatibility and teaching features continue to evolve.

Initial language support

Execution is available for Portugol Studio 2.0, VisuAlg, G-Portugol, Mapler, Calango, and Potigol.

Expand compatibility

Expand support for current options and improve learning features.

Improve learning support

Expand diagnostics and features that help explain algorithms.

Refine the user experience

Improve the IDE as the project and its compatibility grow.
